In order for D & P Communications to broadcast channels to our customers, a contract must be in place with the appropriate network. The majority of our current network agreements were set to expire on 2/28/2021 at 11:59pm. D & P Communications has been working hard to negotiate the retransmission rates with the various cable networks or station providers in an effort to keep your cable programming costs down. We are acting in good faith on behalf of our customers. Our goal is simple; to provide our customers with quality content, and affordable pricing. Sometimes to achieve this goal, we find it in the best interest of our customers to eliminate certain channels. As a result of the most recent round of negotiations, there are certain out-of-market local channels that will be unavailable in 2021.
The short answer is the FCC (Federal Communications Commission). The FCC determines the local channels available in each market based on the customers geographic location (Lenawee County customers are a part of the Toledo Designated Market Area (DMA), and Monroe County customers are a part of the Detroit Designated Market Area (DMA)). In the past, D & P was able to carry the local channels from both of our serviceable markets (Toledo and Detroit), but starting in 2021, we no longer have this luxury. Starting in 2021, some of the out-of-market local channels will no longer be available. We have done our best to keep the channels we currently offer, but in the best interest of our customers, certain changes need to be made in order to combat the rising costs.
As a result of the most recent programming negotiations, the following local channel changes are now in effect:
